Repeat Costs: How Your Bill Changes as You Titrate

Your starter dose is the cheapest month of treatment you will have. Based on listed retail prices from 64 UK pharmacies for Mounjaro and 59 for Wegovy, this page shows exactly how much the bill rises as the dose steps up — and where the steepest increase falls.

Almost every price you see advertised for a weight loss injection is the price of a starting dose. That is the correct place to begin clinically, but it is a poor basis for a budget, because nobody stays there. Both Mounjaro and Wegovy are titrated: the dose is stepped up gradually until you reach a strength that works and that you tolerate. Each step costs more than the one before it.

We analysed listed retail prices from 64 UK pharmacies for Mounjaro and 59 for Wegovy, collected in July 2026. The pattern is consistent enough to plan around. On average, moving from the Mounjaro starter dose to the 10 mg strength many patients settle on adds £104.63 a month — a 65% increase. For Wegovy, moving from 0.25 mg to the standard 2.4 mg maintenance dose adds £101.02 a month, a 90% increase.

What “maintenance dose” means, and why nobody can quote you one in advance.

A maintenance dose is the strength you stay on once titration is complete. It is not a fixed destination. Some people respond well at 5 mg of Mounjaro and never go higher; others reach 15 mg. Your prescriber decides each step based on your response, your side effects and your health, and there is no way to know in advance where you will land.

This is why budgeting on a starter price is risky. A sensible approach is to check what a mid-range strength costs at your chosen pharmacy and treat that as your realistic monthly figure, rather than the number that persuaded you to sign up.

The steepest step

Mounjaro 5 mg to 7.5 mg adds £54.86 a month on average, a 30% rise in one step. Every other Mounjaro increase averages under £27. If a month is going to be difficult financially, this is the one.

The provider gap widens

At Mounjaro 10 mg the cheapest listed price is £229.00 and the dearest £319.00. For Wegovy 2.4 mg the spread runs from £135.00 to £290.00 — the same pen, at more than double the price.

A full year of Mounjaro

Four weeks each at 2.5, 5 and 7.5 mg, then nine months at 10 mg, averages £2,977.51 across the 64 pharmacies — £2,557.00 at the cheapest, £3,638.00 at the dearest.

Starter dose versus maintenance dose

The table below compares average listed prices at the starting dose with the strengths patients most often settle on. Every figure is a mean across all pharmacies in our July 2026 dataset that publish a price for that strength.

Medicine and doseAverage monthly priceChange vs starter dose
Mounjaro 2.5 mg (starter)£161.21
Mounjaro 10 mg (common maintenance)£265.84+£104.63 (+65%)
Mounjaro 15 mg (highest)£302.75+£141.54 (+88%)
Wegovy 0.25 mg (starter)£112.83
Wegovy 2.4 mg (standard maintenance)£213.85+£101.02 (+90%)
Wegovy 7.2 mg (highest)£291.32+£177.95 (+157%)

Mounjaro n=64 pharmacies at every strength. Wegovy n=59, except 7.2 mg where only 20 of 59 publish a price.

Where the increase actually falls

The rise is not evenly spread. For Mounjaro, the first step up is modest and the last two are small, but the move from 5 mg to 7.5 mg is severe — more than double any other increment. It typically lands in your third or fourth month, once the initial enthusiasm and any first-order discount have both gone.

Mounjaro dose stepAverage increasePercentage rise
2.5 mg → 5 mg+£23.20+14%
5 mg → 7.5 mg+£54.86+30%
7.5 mg → 10 mg+£26.57+11%
10 mg → 12.5 mg+£18.71+7%
12.5 mg → 15 mg+£18.20+6%

Wegovy behaves differently. Many pharmacies charge the same or nearly the same for the first three strengths — 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg and 1 mg average £112.83, £125.05 and £134.49 — so the early months feel stable. The increases arrive later and harder: 1 mg to 1.7 mg adds 31% and 1.7 mg to 2.4 mg adds a further 21%. If you are comparing on the starter price alone, Wegovy looks considerably cheaper than it turns out to be at maintenance.

Check the top of the ladder before you step onto the bottom of it.

A pharmacy that is competitive at the starter dose is not necessarily competitive higher up. In our dataset the cheapest Mounjaro starter price is £131.00 and the dearest £229.00, a gap of £98. By 15 mg the range runs £264.03 to £359.00. Before you commit, look up the price of 7.5 mg and 10 mg at the same provider. If those strengths are not published, you cannot plan, and that itself is useful information.

A note on the highest Wegovy dose

Only 20 of the 59 Wegovy pharmacies in our dataset publish a price for the 7.2 mg strength. Where it is listed, it averages £291.32 and ranges from £202.00 to £409.00 — the widest spread of any dose we measured. If your prescriber may take you to that strength, confirm your pharmacy stocks and prices it before you build a treatment plan around them.

How we calculated these figures

  • Standard listed retail prices only. Discount codes, referral offers, subscription rates and temporary introductory promotions are excluded.
  • Delivery is excluded where a provider lists it separately, so a real invoice may be higher than the figures shown.
  • Averages are unweighted means across every pharmacy publishing a price for that strength; no adjustment is made for market share.
  • Prices collected July 2026 from 64 pharmacies (Mounjaro) and 59 (Wegovy). One pen is a four-week supply at each strength.
  • The twelve-month figure assumes four weeks each at 2.5, 5 and 7.5 mg followed by nine months at 10 mg. It is one plausible schedule, not a prediction of yours.

Cost should never decide your dose. Titration is a clinical decision made by your prescriber based on how you respond and what you can tolerate. If treatment is becoming unaffordable, tell your prescriber rather than stretching, splitting or skipping doses — there are safer options to discuss, including staying at a lower effective dose.

Prices were collected in July 2026 and change frequently. Always confirm the current total at the provider’s checkout before paying.
